DAB Governor Meets with the UN Special Representative for Afghanistan

February 23, 2022— The acting Governor of DAB, Mr. Haji Idrees met with the UN Special Representative for Afghanistan, Ms. Deborah Lyons and discussed different financial and banking issues.

Mr. Haji Idrees thanked the UN Special Representative pertaining to the humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan and requested that the said aid be channeled through the banking sector.

Ms. Deborah Lyons also talked about the financial, banking and economic sectors and deemed the role of banks useful in relation to the provision of humanitarian aid. She said that the United Nations has provided USD 2 billion in aid in the last six months and it will continue in the future.

According to her, they’re trying to hold discussions with different organizations in regard to the improvement of Afghanistan banking relations so they may be able to easily continue the provision of humanitarian aid.

It’s worth mentioning that apart from the aforementioned, a number of other financial and banking issues were also discussed in this meeting.
