DAB Acting Governor Meets with UNDP Head for Afghanistan
June 5, 2024 - The acting governor of Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB), Hedayatullah Badri, met with the resident representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for Afghanistan, Stephen Rodrigues, in the main office of the DAB.
In this meeting, the acting governor of Da Afghanistan Bank emphasized the significance of Islamic banking, electronic payments, and microfinance in economic development, considering the improvement of these areas as a priority in the contemporary era.
He stated that Da Afghanistan Bank has been able to manage the banking sector properly and has taken significant and practical steps in developing Islamic banking, making the payments electronic, adding DAB has enacted laws and regulations to improve microfinance to play a positive role in developing the country’s economy.
“I believe that access to appropriate financial services can play a remarkable role in empowering low-income individuals and alleviating poverty in the community,” Badri said, adding DAB is seeking positive and better ties with all the aid organizations and urged them to focus their support on decreasing unemployment rate and creating job opportunities.
Praising the DAB's achievement in stabilizing the Afghani currency, controlling inflation, managing the banking sector, and overall developing the country’s economy, Stephen Rodrigues committed to cooperating in developing Islamic banking, banking sector, electronic payment digitization, microfinance, and other numerous matters.
It is noteworthy that, besides the resident representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Stephen Rodrigues, and his accompanying delegation, the meeting was attended by several director generals of DAB.
