IFSB 23rd Annual Meeting in Rabat, Morocco
The Acting Governor of Da Afghanistan Bank, Noor Ahmad Agha, along with his accompanying delegation, participated in the 23rd annual meeting of the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB), held from July 1–3, 2025, in Rabat, Morocco. This meeting, hosted by Morocco’s central bank (Bank Al-Maghrib), was attended by the governors, deputy governors, and representatives of 34 central banks from Islamic countries, including Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB).
In this meeting, the board’s activities from the previous year and reports related to Islamic banking and financial issues were discussed and subsequently approved by the member countries. Furthermore, during the meeting, six Islamic countries and international Islamic banking institutions shared their expertise with participants regarding exports, imports, investment, and the financing of infrastructure projects through Sukuk.
During this meeting, the improved implementation of Islamic banking standards based on Shariah principles, strengthening stability and sound management in both Islamic banking and non-banking sectors, promoting financial inclusion, enhancing capacity building, and the effective use of digitalization and financial technology (FinTech) are discussed for the upcoming year. Moreover, the existing global challenges regarding the promotion of Islamic banking and finance, along with related plans and practical measures to overcome these obstacles, are also discussed.
Additionally, the Acting Governor of DAB held a meeting with Dr. Ghiath Shabsigh, the Secretary-General of the IFSB, where they discussed improving the management of Afghanistan’s banking sector aligned with Shariah principles. Enhancing capacity building and training programs were other parts of the agenda between the DAB Acting Governor and the IFSB authorities.
It is worth mentioning that the IFSB is an international Islamic institution, in which DAB, central banks of other Islamic countries, various Islamic banks, and international financial institutions hold membership.
