Afghan Delegation Meets with the Managing Director of IMF
Mr. Wahidullah Nosher, the Acting and first Deputy Governor of Da Afghanistan Bank, and Mr. Humayon Qayoumi, the Finance Minister and Chief Adviser on Infrastructure to the President of Afghanistan, and the delegation accompanying them met with Ms. Kristalina Georgieva in Washington D.C city of the United States of America.
In this meeting whereat Ms. Roya Rahmani, the Ambassador of Afghanistan in Washington was also in attendance, the Managing Director of IMF admired the achievements of Afghanistan concerning the preservation and stability of the financial system of the country and the furtherance of reforms, and expressed her satisfaction in relation to the performance of DAB and the Ministry of Finance of The Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in implementing the commitments of the country regarding the financial system reform and stability of the banking sector.
The Afghan delegation presented to Ms. Kristalina Georgieva the congratulatory message of the President of Afghanistan concerning her appointment as the Managing Director of IMF, and described in detail the measures and programs of the Afghan Government for improving the economic condition of the country, the transitioning from consumptive to the productive economy, the strengthening of exports and maintaining the financial Self-sufficiency, and expanding the role and presence of the women and youth.
Mr. Nosher, referring to the experiences and understanding of Ms. Kristalina Georgieva concerning the economic conditions of the transitioning and less developed countries, deemed her selection right and suitable, and called the IMF’s support for economic and financial policies and reforms in Afghanistan important and effective.
Mr. Nosher insisted upon the strengthening of IMF and Afghanistan’s relations, especially through the presence of IMF’s representative in the country.
The Afghan delegation, mentioning the near completion of the collective program of Afghanistan and IMF expressed Afghanistan’s interest and complete readiness in relation to the starting of the new program after the completion of the current, emphasizing the importance of focus on the economic growth and combatting poverty and unemployment in the new program, and ensured Afghanistan’s resolute determination in combatting corruption.
